Josiah Paris MFA Thesis Exhibition

For the past two years I have been photographing after the sun has set, looking at unnatural light and areas which would be dark without mankind’s intervention. I work to show how tungsten and fluorescent light has transformed the space, and how compared to the day, it creates a very different scene. The photographs which compile the project “Enlightened” are not meant to be menacing but work to show the cracks I have found in mankind’s endless efforts to fill in every shadow.  There are obvious limitations to man made lights, and my photographs show where their light ends; the edge of darkness.
