man-made environments. Includes photography, sculpture, installation, printmaking, and fiber arts. The event is also a fundraiser to help clean the oil spills in the Gulf Coast.

SHAKING HANDS WITH THE ROAD
is an art exhibition designed to celebrate the completion of two photography books by two artists, Eliot Dudik and Nathan Larimer. Both artists will have their new books available at the Oglethorpe Gallery and will be available for discussion and book signing during the reception on May 21st between 6 and 9pm. The exhibition will be on display from May 19th to the 25th.

Eliot Dudik’s latest work, ROAD ENDS IN WATER, explores and celebrates the cultural heritage and landscape of the southern coast of rural South Carolina.

Nathan Larimer’s book, IMPRINT, is a collection of photographs that investigates the ways that individuals mark the environment for communicative and ritualistic purposes.

Reading, Writing, and Rock n' Roll

Mark Edmundson, Ph.D., is the university professor of English at the University of Virginia. His published works include “Literature Against Philosophy,” “Plato to Derrida: A Defense of Poetry,” “Teacher: The One Who Made the Difference,” and “Why Read?” His new work, “The Fine Wisdom and Perfect Teachings of the Kings of Rock and Roll: A Memoir,” will be published soon.

In this lecture, Edmundson weaves together his own experiences as a high-school student and as a college graduate, to discuss the joys and merits of reading. His wit, personal narrative and unusual trajectory into academia will undoubtedly be provocative, entertaining and inspiring. Edmundson's lecture is sponsored by the School of Liberal Arts, and is free and open to the public.

Course Number Change

The elective course, Digital Imaging for the World Wide Web (formerly PHOT 306) has been changed to SFIN 306 to attract and serve a broader range of students from the School of Fine Arts.

Your work is juried by a board of internationally esteemed artists, writers, curators, gallery owners and other luminaries of the visual arts. The jury-selected finalists and shortlist will be published in the LICC Annual Awards Book, on the website and announced to the creative arts and media outlets worldwide. The 15 finalists works will be presented at the LICC awards ceremony in London and one prize-winner chosen by the jury will receive the 2,000 pounds cash prize.

Call for Entries - Surface (Deadline Extended)

Desotorow Gallery is currently accepting submissions for Surface, a juried exhibition featuring work by college juniors and seniors.

In order to be considered for the exhibit, you must submit the following:

1. Entry Form (Download Here)
2. Entry Fee
3. Digital Images
4. Artist Statement

Eligibility: This juried exhibition is open to national and international student artists (juniors and seniors).

Media/Genre: Open to works of all genres and media.

Delivery & Return of Work: All work accepted for the exhibition must arrive ready to install. Work that is not ready to hang or that does not exhibit good craftsmanship may be omitted from the exhibit. Work that differs significantly from its entry image may be disqualified. Work can be hand delivered or shipped. Hand delivered work must be picked up from the gallery by the date specified (see Deadlines). Desotorow Gallery is not responsible for work left beyond the date specified. Shipped work must be sent in a reusable container with return shipping prepaid. Work should be securely packaged, clearly labeled, and sent with a return shipping label. Work will be returned in the same manner as delivered, or via UPS/USPS. Accepted work will remain on display for the duration of the exhibition.

Entry Fee: You may submit up to three pieces for a non-refundable entry fee of $15. The entry fee may be paid online or with cash, check, or money order (checks and money orders should be made payable to DESOTOROW GALLERY).

Sale of Work: Desotorow Gallery, Inc. will not take commission on the sale of artwork. Payment will be made directly to artists.

Images: Desotorow only accepts digital images for consideration. Images must meet the following specifications:

File Names: Artist’s last name followed by the entry number (i.e. Smith01.jpg, Smith02.jpg)

File Size: Images must be saved in a HIGH QUALITY JPEG format at 72 DPI and no smaller than 1000 pixels in any direction.

Andrei Rozen Novgorod Spaceship Project Reception












Please join artist Andrei Rozen for a reception on May 14th from 5-6 pm at the Pinnacle Gallery, 320 E. Liberty Street

The SCAD exhibitions department presents Andrei Rozen's The Novgorod Spaceship Project, a solo exhibition of photographs depicting the modernist architecture of Novgorod's Drama Theater in Russia. The images convey Rozen's passionate exploration of this unique, yet little know historical monument which he discovered in 2004 while on assignment for Vogue.
