Jon Brown MFA Thesis Exhibition

A thesis exhibition of imagery and sculpture by SCAD MFA student, Jon Brown, will be on display at the Mr. Beast Gallery from May 19–25. The opening reception will be on Friday, May 20th from 6–9 pm. Public welcome.

Brown will be exhibiting work from his Ruminate series. According to the artist,

Ruminate is a visual exploration of finding balance between opposing forces. The imagery originates from photographs of pigment suspended in water. These free-flowing organic forms are captured and manipulated digitally, laser cut into acrylic, inked and run through a press. This process yields itself to the unexpected. Complimenting these inked pieces are wooden boxes carefully constructed using precise measurement, engineering, and rigid lines to achieve an anticipated effect.

This relationship between the unexpected and the expected, the natural and cultural, and the organic and rigid, influences my work. The works that comprise Rumination are a tangible signifier of how I balance these forces as an artist and in life more generally.

It is upon this precept that through the adequate balance of the unexpected and expected, harmony can reside in life and art.

The Mr. Beast Gallery is located at 1522 Bull Street in Savannah, GA. Gallery hours are Monday–Friday from 2–6 pm.
