Submit Work

Show and sell your best work at “Immediate Surroundings” summer sales exhibition

Deadline for submissions is Friday, May 16.

The SCAD exhibitions department invites SCAD students, professors, staff and alumni to submit entries for the 2014 summer sales exhibition “Immediate Surroundings.”

“Immediate Surroundings” seeks works by SCAD artists that depict a range of interpretations that suggest a sense of place. This can include interiors or landscapes, still lifes or close-up images, representations of people or cities, abstract or representational visions of the environment — whatever you believe examines the personal or overarching world you live in, directly or indirectly.

The “Immediate Surroundings” call for submissions welcomes artists making work from a variety of disciplines including but not limited to painting, photography, sculpture, fibers, film, animation, drawing and printmaking.

Email completed entries to Chris Constas, using "Artist Name: Immediate Surroundings" in the subject line. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. Limit your attachment size to 1MB. Include the following:

Images of individual works, with image files titled to match the works' title. Example: Doe_Jane_Mona Lisa.jpg
Images must show completed work, and images of 2-D work must incorporate the frame if the work is framed.
Word document containing name, mailing address, email address, phone number, current SCAD status (e.g., M.F.A. painting student), with a checklist of works submitted that includes title of work, medium, dimensions, year and artist price. Document title should include artist name. Example: Doe_Jane_Checklist.doc
Please note that for professors, alumni and staff, artist price is marked up 50 percent and 30 percent for matriculated students.
A word document résumé or CV including artist exhibition history, separated into group and solo shows, and awards and honors. Example: Doe_Jane_CV.doc.
Do not include contact information or graphics.
Artists will be notified of a decision in a timely fashion.

Call for entries

For one in five Georgians, poverty is a daily reality – with basic necessities like food and shelter far from guaranteed. And with one of the lowest rates of social mobility in the country, it’s likely that many Georgia children born into poverty will never escape.

To bring greater visibility to this issue, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Georgia (SVdP) is creating 100 Profiles of Poverty – a photo gallery depicting the plight of Georgia’s most vulnerable populations.

The exhibit, which coincides with our 100th anniversary in fall 2014, will serve as a thought platform for discussion and incite a clear call for others to join our fight to break the cycle of poverty. Top photographers from across the state are participating – coming together to capture the challenges facing this population as well as moments of hope and progress.

We launched our call for entries last week – and photographers (students, amateurs, professionals alike) are invited to participate. More information here: http://www.svdpatl.org/misc/100-profiles-povertyand on our Facebook page.

Fulbright Student Scholarships

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or for English Teaching Assistant Programs.  During their grants, Fulbrighters will meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home, and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others' viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things, and the way they think. Through engagement in the community, the individual will interact with their hosts on a one-to-one basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom, thereby promoting mutual understanding.  For more information, visit the Fulbright U.S. Student Program website at
