6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Arnold Hall | Book Signing

Color for a New Era
Color and design trends for 2020 reveal a fascinating dichotomy as a new era brings in both novel and nostalgic approaches to color and design.  A kaleidoscopic array of colors twists into patterns and combinations that seem surreal and out-of-the-ordinary—while other palettes stabilize and reassure with authenticity, reality and a tweak of the familiar. The new era is rich in both color and design potential in its use of diverse color palettes that will provide meaningful and creative insights into the future.

Lensculture Portrait Awards

Seeking new visions in portraiture.
Portraiture and photography have been linked since the medium’s inception. What started with formal family Daguerreotype portraits in the 1840s developed into a centuries-old fascination with making and looking at photographs of people — a love that we see translated in the popularity of this award every year.
The LensCulture Portrait Awards are open to photographers at all levels of experience and all interpretations of portraiture. Your work may be made in the studio with professional lighting or snapped on a smart-phone during your travels, what matters is not your method but your ability to move your audience. From quirky self-portraits to candid portrayals of family and friends, from staged and conceptual photographs of public figures to environmental portraits, we want to see your work! Winners will enjoy career-changing opportunities including exhibition in New York in April 2020, extensive media coverage, projection at international photography festivals, cash prizes and more.

The existence of only one color functions as an incentive that unlocks feelings and leads viewers to new paths of realization.
All Monochrome photographs taken with film of digital camera by both amateur and professional photographers can take part in the “Monochrome” contest.

Exhibition prints due:  February 20, 2020
Gallery exhibition:  March 5 - 28, 2020

“Joy comes to us in moments — ordinary moments. We risk missing out on joy when we get too busy chasing down the extraordinary."      —Brené Brown

As photographers, we have developed skill in seeing beneath the surface of our subjects, and often find in them the beauty, poignancy, and poetry that exist in ordinary moments. For this exhibition, we seek the simple poetic elegance of ordinary people, places, and objects. All captures and processes are welcome.

We are honored that Sarah Sudhoff will be the juror for The Poetry of the Ordinary. She will select 35 images for exhibition in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery and another 35 for our Online Gallery.

WHAT WE DO

PhotoPlace Gallery offers monthly, juried photographic exhibitions to photographers worldwide, each with a new topic and internationally recognized juror.

Juror selections are exhibited in either our physical gallery in Middlebury, Vermont or in our Online gallery on our website. All past exhibitions remain permanently posted on the website.

We encourage creative interpretation of our themes. Images do need to relate to the theme, but they need not be entirely literal.
