Assistant Professor of Creative Technologies

The School of Visual Arts (SOVA) at Virginia Tech seeks applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track, academic-year faculty position in Creative Technologies, beginning Fall 2012. Duties and responsibilities include teaching a 2/2 teaching load spread over two semesters, and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses from beginning to advanced levels.

Required Qualifications

Terminal professional degree (M.F.A. or equivalent). Previous experience teaching in a Strong and thorough knowledge of digital tools and software packages (proficiency with Maya strongly preferred). A broad understanding of contemporary and traditional art practice and theory relating to Creative Technologies (computer animation, 3D modeling, programming, App development for mobile devices, etc).

Duties and responsibilities include teaching 2/2 teaching load spread over two semesters, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses from beginning to advanced levels.

Required Qualifications

Terminal professional degree (M.F.A. in Digital Photography and/or related field). Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. (Teaching and participation in the new MFA in Creative Technologies program is an opportunity when appropriate.) A broad understanding of contemporary and traditional art practice and theory relating to Digital Imaging/Photography.

Assistant Professor of Sculpture

The School of Visual Arts (SOVA) at Virginia Tech seeks applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track, academic-year faculty position in Sculpture, beginning Fall 2012.

Required Qualifications

A terminal professional degree (M.F.A. in Sculpture and/or related 3D media); a minimum of two years post-graduate teaching experience; demonstrated proficiency in digital software (examples: laser cutting, CAD/Rhinoceros, Rapid Proto-typer, Zbrush, and/or 3D modeling); and a broad understanding of contemporary and traditional art theory and practice related to sculpture. General knowledge of fabrication and industry tools in sculptural materials (wood, ceramics, casting, plastic, metal, etc.). Demonstrated ability to seamlessly integrate digital tools in 3D art & design.
