Richmond VA Gallery5 Calls for Entry

"Memento Mori" A Exhibition of Contemporary Art Exploring Death and the Ephemeral  (October 29th - December 17th 2010)
Submission Deadline: Friday, September 24th (Extended from September 17th)


Gallery5 is now accepting proposals and visual submissions for "Momento Mori," an exhibition that considers death and ephemerality in the modern era. The work assembled in this all-media show will look at how artists are confronting these issues today and consider impermanence in cotemporary culture. "Memento Mori" will be shown from October 29th until Dec 17th 2010 and will coincide with an observance of Dia de Muertos throughout the month of November. Both 2-dimensional and 3-demensional works are welcome and there is no entry fee. Gallery5 should receive all submissions and proposals no later than September 24th (this has now been extended). All digital images should be a maximum of 10”x10” at 72 dpi. Please attach a numbered index of your work that includes title, dimensions, and medium. Bio, statement, resume, and relevant links may also be included in your submission.

“Papier-Mâchete” A Juried Exhibition of Works In Paper and Fiber Media ( January 7th - February 18th 2011)
Submission Deadline: Tuesday, November 23th 2010


Gallery5 is currently accepting submissions and proposals for “Papier-Mâchete.” This juried fine-art exhibition will focus on artwork utilizing paper and organic fiber media as the primary construction means. An official jury for this exhibit will be announced on September 24th. “Papier-Mâchete” will explore the limitless range found in these ubiquitous materials. Submissions may be 2D or 3D but should display innovative and inventive uses of paper and associated fibers. Traditional techniques such as collage and papier-mâché are discouraged but may be included if they exemplify a unique or transcendent approach to the craft. All works must be primarily composed of paper or analogous fibers, that include but are not limited to, cardboard, cardstock, newspaper, paper pulp, or organic media adapted from wood and fabric. The deadline for all submissions is Tuesday, November 23th 2010. All submissions must arrive at Gallery5 by 6pm on the 23rd. An entry fee of $20.00 must be included with your submission. This entry fee will be utilized for operational costs and awards. Each artist may include up to 5 individual submissions (with other detail photos). There is no limit to the total number of submissions that can be included, however, there is a $5.00 fee for each additional submission. Entries rendered after office hours can be placed in our mail slot. Selected works will be on display from January 7th until February 18th 2010. All participants are eligible to win up to $1000 in cash and prizes. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be announced by a group of jurors during the First Friday opening exhibition scheduled for January 7th at 7pm. Acceptance and rejection letters will be sent on Monday, November 29th. All work must be delivered to Gallery5 by Saturday, December 18th.
