SCAD Museum Summer Internship




Summer Internship Opportunity

The SCAD Museum of Art offers an unpaid, credit-bearing internship to one SCAD student each summer.
The objective of the internship program is to offer practical training to students interested in gaining experience in museum programming, education and administration. Interns gain a general knowledge and broad understanding of how the museum functions within the context of the larger university environment. Interns participate in the ongoing work of the department and complete specific projects or portions of larger departmental initiatives.
Eligibility:

• GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff and the public
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision
• Preference is given to graduate students who are interested in a career in the museum field
Timeline:
• 150 hours over approximately 10
weeks (June - August)
Duties:
• Develop a project that furthers the student's academic and professional goals with a deliverable at the end of the term (research paper, evaluation project, educational tool, program proposal)
• Host community and school groups visiting the museum
• Assist in coordinating educational activities in conjunction with the Museum Education Club
• Facilitate delivery of membership information and follow-up communication with museum visitors through iPad guestbooks
• Assist with stocking classrooms with supplies
• Work with docents to learn about visitor services and methods of interpreting artwork, leading tours
• Meet weekly with museum managing director
