MFAs: Teaching Opportunity

Faculty Vacancy -- Assistant/Associate Professor Creative Photography

The University of Florida School of Art and Art History, College of Fine Arts in Gainesville, Florida, invites applications for a tenure track faculty position with a specialization in Creative Photography. The starting date for the position is August 16, 2010.

Rank and salary: Assistant or Associate professor; nine-month salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate and graduate students and participate in program development; conduct research appropriate to the discipline; contribute in the area of service to the university, the community and the profession; and share responsibilities for area facilities. This position offers an opportunity to demonstrate leadership skills, work collaboratively and participate in rotating area coordinator responsibilities for the creative photography program.

Qualifications: MFA and teaching experience beyond graduate assistantship required. Accomplished artist and committed teacher. Must be conversant with history, theory and contemporary critical issues in creative photography and possess expertise in traditional dark room techniques and digital photography. Experience with video production and theory is preferred.

School of Art and Art History: Organized within the College of Fine Arts, the school plays an important role in the academic life of the university and in the community. The school has 40 full-time faculty, 420 undergrad students, and 110 graduate students. Degree programs include the BA, BFA, MA, MFA and PhD. Areas of study include General Art Studies, Art History, Art Education, Museum Studies, Studio Art (with majors in Ceramics, Creative Photography, Drawing, Digital Media, Graphic Design, Painting, Printmaking and Sculpture). The University Gallery, the Focus Gallery and Grinter Galleries also provide laboratories for professional and student art work. Degree programs are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Museums/Galleries: The Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, one of the largest university art museums in the southeast and ranked among the top ten public university art museums in the country by the Association of Art Museum directors, presents innovative programming and constantly changing exhibitions under the direction of five curators. The Harn Eminent Scholar Program links the museum and the school. The Florida Museum of Natural History is the largest natural history museum in the southeast, with historical, ethnological and natural history holdings and an exceptional research staff and 20 curators. The museum???s greatest strengths are its natural history collections and collections-based research.

In addition each applicant must submit 20 digital images of professional work and 20 digital images of students??? work. Digital images should be JPEG format, a maximum of 1200 pixels one side, and accompanied by an annotated printed image list (indicate actual size, media and date) with thumbnail images. Video work excerpts should be no longer than 5 minutes and should be included on a self contained standard definition DVD playable on any commercial SD-DVD player.
