A Tribute to Cartier Bresson

August 22 marks the 101st anniversary of Henri Cartier-Bresson's birth. Considered by many to be the father of modern photojournalism and the street photographer's archetype, Cartier-Bresson was unparalleled at capturing "the decisive moment"—that fleeting point of time where an event hits its visual chord. As stated in his New York Times obituary, "his best photographs... are simply among the best works of 20th-century art."

Even 5 years after Cartier-Bresson's passing, his impact is still felt, influencing the way thousands—if not millions—of photographers shoot.

What image of yours best captures the decisive moment? Over the next week, we invite you to share an image that exemplifies the photojournalistic and street photography style of Henri Cartier-Bresson. We'll feature our favorites as a tribute in the sixth edition of TimeFrames.

View a portfolio of Cartier-Bresson's work on his Magnum Photos profile and read more atWikipedia or his Foundation's site. We also highly recommend the 2003 film The Impassioned Eye.
