Same but Different The New York Center for Photographic Arts (NYC4PA)
invites photographers world-wide to submit images using any photographic
process (print, image transfer, emulsion transfer, encaustic, black and
white, etc.).
For this call NYC4PA is challenging photographers to pair two
photographs and submit them in diptych format (both images in one file).
The images in each file will be “almost” the same but different enough
to make each unique. You may have two versions of an image that you
processed differently, or the same scene shot at different times of day.
Have you taken two portraits of the same person with a feature or
features that distinguish the images. The possibilities are endless and
the room for interpretation and creativity equally vast.

2023 Krappy Kamera® Competition
What is a Krappy Kamera?
Our philosophy at Soho Photo Gallery is that in the hands of any artist
great photographs can be made with basic equipment. To explore this
talent, we are searching for extraordinary photographs made with lousy
lenses. Examples of some Krappy Kameras are the Holga, Diana, Ansco, and
pinhole cameras. You can also create your own Krappy Kamera by using
your non-Krappy Kamera (e.g., 4×5, SLR, DSLR) and exchanging the lens
with a Krappy lens (e.g., pinhole body cap or Holga-type lens). Cell
phones, disposables and point and shoot cameras are ineligible.
Remember, just because a camera is old and moldy doesn’t make it Krappy.
The lens is the determining factor.
Submission
The competition is open to all photographers 18 years old and older,
excluding members of Soho Photo Gallery. Use the link below to upload
your digital entries and payment.
Awards
First Place $300, Second Place $200, and Third Place $100 will be awarded as well as three honorable mentions.

The Psychology of Night. For almost two centuries, night photography has captured the creative
imagination. There is a long photographic tradition of capturing the
scenes and moods of the night and low light. From the 19th century long
exposures, to high-speed color films and digital technology, the subject
of night has inspired many contemporary artists.
There is a certain psychology of the night. The night can be an
incredibly suggestive time. Mystery, introspection, quiet or loud, and
behaviors not abiding by the mainstream rules of the day, with the
darkness useful for creating mystery or an unnerving atmosphere. Scenes
we overlook during the day often take on a fascinating new appearance at
night – in a literal or abstract way.
Urban street scenes, portraits, documentary, landscapes, conceptual,
still life … All subjects, genres, capture types, color or black &
white are welcome for submission.
Show us life at night, the night’s effect on the mind, the body, the
nature or the city, as well as self-expression afforded in times when
most are asleep.

possibilities and methods available to create desired outcomes are
boundless. We are looking for your creations that reflect your
creativity and inspiration. This can include but is not limited to
images altered by computer, drawing, darkroom, chemicals, collage, text,
sculptural, or installation-based work.
