2023 Summer Internship Program Opportunities
Gain experience in a leading art museum, featuring a significant permanent collection and world-class exhibitions.
The High Museum of Art’s internship program is offered for eight weeks each summer to rising college juniors and seniors as well as to graduating seniors. This is a paid internship. Interns also receive many benefits which include free admission to select Museum functions, discounts at our cafĂ© and gift shop, and the ability to observe and receive instruction that enhances their knowledge of the area in which they are assigned. Candidates accepted into the program are responsible for securing their own housing and transportation (including parking, which they will receive at a discounted employee rate) for the duration of the program

Our Program
The High offers you the chance to gain real-world experience in professions where experience is crucial. We strive to give our interns projects that are meaningful and educational. In addition to contributing to important tasks in the departments to which interns are assigned, once a week interns will participate in professional development workshops to learn about various departments and daily operational functions.

2023 Opportunities
1. EDUCATION INTERN
Supervisors: Laurel Humble, Head of Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning
Department: Education
Internship Summary:
For this position we will seek an intern who has an interest in art or
museum education and in working with people with disabilities. The
Accessibility Intern will assist Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning
and Family Programs with research, resource development, and program
assistance and evaluation. The intern will assist with existing and
ongoing programs, help research best practices for sensory-friendly
programming, research and co-develop resources for visitors with
disabilities, and assist with staff and volunteer training. These
efforts will support the expansion of the museum’s accessibility and
inclusion for visitors with disabilities, bolster our staff and
volunteer understanding of these audiences, and improve communication
with visitors with disabilities.
Specific Projects:
- Research for sensory-friendly programming
- Research and assist in developing social stories, maps, and other resources that improve how we communicate museum accessibility and opportunities for visitors with disabilities
- Research and evaluation with visitors with disabilities and their families for education programs geared toward learners of all ages Writing of alternative text for collection objects on high.org Research and participation in staff and volunteer training on working with visitors with disabilities
Necessary Qualifications:
- Comfort with public speaking
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Detail-oriented, strong work ethic

2. CURATORIAL INTERN – MODERN & CONTEMPORARY
Department: Curatorial
Internship Summary:
First-hand experience conducting preparatory work and discovery for
comprehensive exhibition research on a special exhibition of Korean
modern art. The intern will learn to compare and contrast traditional
Korean art with art influenced by the west and Japan.
Specific Projects:
- Conduct preliminary fact-finding work to chart the history of modern influences from the West on Korean art in the 20th century
- Identify key individuals and the location of their works
- Identify and access literature in academic journals and other publications
3. CURATORIAL INTERN – EUROPEAN ART
Supervisor: Claudia Einecke, Frances B. Bunzl Family Curator of European Art
Department: Curatorial
Internship Summary:
The intern will be involved in the day-to-day activities of the
curatorial department of European Art, assisting to prepare a
works-on-paper rotation for the Fall of 2023 by managing the checklist
and researching for label copy. The intern will gain a good
understanding of the multifarious responsibilities and activities of a
curator, including collaboration with other departments.
Specific Projects:
- Works-on-paper rotation
- Involvement in preparing the installation of a special exhibition
