Innovate Grant – 2021 Call for Photographers

Innovate Grant is now accepting submissions for 2021 Cycles. Innovate Grant awards (2) $550.00 grants each quarter (in the Q1: Winter, Q2: Spring, Q3: Summer, and Q4: Fall), to one Visual Artist and one Photographer. In addition to receiving a grant award, winners will be featured and recognized on our website and join a growing community of vibrant and talented artists. For more information and to apply visit https://innovateartistgrants.org

Innovate Grant supports photographers and artists through quarterly grants. We’ve simplified the grant process, so that artists and photographers can focus on making their innovative work. The work should speak for itself and our application reflects that.

How to Apply:
Photographers and visual artists, 18 years and older, from all around the world, are eligible to apply. All media and genres are accepted. All applicants retain the right to the work they submit.

Call for Entries: Composed

Well-composed photographs possess a few essential elements: an interesting way of seeing or interpreting the subject, solid craftsmanship that enhances the image, strong organization of the elements within the frame, and hopefully, a spark of life that makes the image memorable. This is a call for such photographs.

All capture and processing methods are welcome.

We are very pleased that Jeff Curto will jury and curate this exhibit. He will select up to 35 images for our Middlebury, Vermont, Exhibition Gallery, and another 35 for our Online Gallery. All 70 images will be published in the exhibition catalog.

Deadline: April 5, 2021
Exhibition prints due: May 13, 2021
Gallery exhibition: May 28 - June 18, 2021

Alumnus Arturo Soto is working on a new project. "A Certain Logic of Expectations” (2016-2020) proposes a counter-narrative of the British city of Oxford that resists the visual imperatives imposed by the architecture of its ancient University. The series explores the longstanding division between town and gown through a careful selection of spaces and objects. The square photographs depict places that are part of the University, while the rectangular ones document the looming presence of Brexit on everyday life, the conflicted local economy, and the city’s diverse neighborhoods. Together, these two kinds of images break down the dichotomy of either denouncing the city’s social ills or celebrating its obvious architectural charms. My hope is that the work resists an easy judgment on Oxford and its established narratives of tradition, power, and influence.
