MONOCHROME contest

What would a world without color look like, if wheat fields were gray instead of gold? What do the lines of a face reveal when a person's skin isn't alive with color?

Calling all photographers who love black and white: Show us your interpretation of a monochrome world and the way you use the medium to convey narrative and tone in this inaugural contest.

In return, we'll reward the most unique example of the genre with a Grand Prize of $2,500 cash, a profile in PDN and a $750 B&H gift card.

Fictional Narrative

© Emma Powell
Photographic fictional narratives read like fairytales rather than memoirs. They leave clues to their story rather than solve mysteries. At times they are constructed images; at other times, the images are found in nature. At their best, fictional narratives create curiosity while recounting intimate or imagined stories - with unique endings for each viewer.

Send us your photographs that tell a story - staged or captured, dreamt or found, whether individual images or a cohesive set of images.
Deadline: Monday, October 15, 2018

There are so many reasons why we pick up the camera. For some it's a means for bringing truth to power. For others it's a pathway of artistic expression. For many, it begins with curiosity for the world around us.

In celebration of the human experience, and the hope that the photographic form can bring, we're calling photographers from all genres to submit your best work today!

In return we'll reward a free trip to this year's PhotoPlus Expo in NYC, plus a three-day show pass and inclusion in the print edition of the PhotoPlus Expo 2018 Show Guide, attracting more than 25,000 attendees each year.
