Six professionals from the fields of writing, fashion
journalism, photography, video and audio production and social media will take
part in WordCast, a two-day media conference sponsored by SCAD student media.
Claire Rosen, Photography BFA Alumna, will be speaking on this panel Friday, January 31, 1-2 pm.
The event is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020,
at Pei Ling Chan Amphitheater. The
conference starts with a panel discussion at 10 a.m. featuring all six speakers
and continues with hour-long workshops led by the speakers throughout the day.
At the conclusion of each one-hour talk, students will have the
opportunity to sign up for a one-on-one talk with each speaker. Space for those
sessions is limited.
The speaker line-up is as follows:
Jeremy Nguyen, Cartoonist and Illustrator | 11 a.m. to noon
In less than a decade since graduating, SCAD alumnus Jeremy Nguyen
(B.F.A., sequential art, 2011) has built an impressive body of work. He has had
his art featured in publications such as GQ and The Nib, as well as in board
games, books and hotels. He has had more than 60 comics published in The New
Yorker and he recently inked a book deal.
Eliza Borné, Oxford American | Noon to 1 p.m.
Eliza Borné is the editor of the Oxford American, a quarterly
magazine dedicated to featuring the best in Southern writing. She has edited
essays and stories that have been honored nationally and during her tenure
Oxford American has won the National Magazine Award in General Excellence.
Claire Rosen, Author, Photographer | 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
SCAD alumna Clair Rosen (B.F.A., photography, 2006) bridges the
gap between fine art and commercial success. Over her career, she has
cultivated a cadre of loyal fine-art clients while also being published in
National Geographic, Refinery29, Slate, Smithsonian Magazine, and The
Washington Post, among others. She’s twice earned a place on the Forbes “30
under 30” list for art and design. Her book, IMAGINARIUM: The Process Behind
the Pictures, was published in 2016.
Miguel Fuller, Radio Host, Social Media Influencer | 2 p.m.
to 3 p.m.
Miguel Fuller hosts the Miguel and Holly Show on HOT 101.5 in
Tampa. In one of the largest media markets in the country, Fuller has crafted a
devoted following (and impressive ratings) through multi-channel messaging that
includes print, TV and social media. He has won national awards for his social
media voice and marketing.
Daniel Poler, Condé Nast Filmmaker | 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A filmmaker with a niche in fashion, SCAD alumnus Daniel Poler
(B.F.A, film and television, 2015) has helmed film campaigns for some of the
world’s most iconic brands. As creative director at Condé Nast, his vision can
be seen in Vanity Fair, GQ and other nationally known publications. He also has
launched a number of his own cinematic ventures.
Lauren Chan, Fashion Entrepreneur | 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Lauren Chan began her career as a plus-size model and journalist,
and her writing has appeared in publications such as Vogue, Interview,
Cosmopolitan and Refinery29. Later, as an editor with Glamour, Chan parlayed a
column on plus-sized fashion into the launch of her own fashion label, Henning,
a brand of luxury womenswear for women size 12 and up.
