Landfall call for submissions
The SCAD exhibitions department invites SCAD students, professors, staff and alumni to submit entries for the 2015 summer sales exhibition “Landfall.” The exhibition seeks work from SCAD artists working in the landscape genre, and pieces that engage with environmental issues, mapping, cityscapes and the natural world are welcome. The title “Landfall” also suggests a first encounter or arrival, and works that take this into consideration are acceptable, as are submissions that celebrate the majesty and beauty of local and international landscapes.
The Landfall call for submissions welcomes artists making work from a variety of disciplines including but not limited to painting, photography, sculpture, fibers, film/video, animation, drawing and printmaking.
Deadline for submissions: Sunday, May 3
Exhibition dates: Gutstein Gallery, June 15 - Sept. 5
Entries will be accepted only online. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. Please note that no email entries will be accepted. Please include the following information for each entry:
- Images of individual works with image files titled to match the works' title. Images must show completed work, and images of 2-D work must incorporate the frame if the work is framed.
- Word document containing name, mailing address, email address, phone number, current SCAD status (e.g., M.F.A. painting student), with a checklist of works submitted that includes title of work, medium, dimensions, year and artist price. Please note that for professors, alumni and staff, artist price is marked up 50 percent and 30 percent for matriculated students.
- A word document résumé or CV including artist exhibition history, separated into group and solo shows, and awards and honors. Do not include contact information or graphics.

I manage inventory, art handling, installation, and transportation
of items acquired from both private and institutional clients.
The foundation I got from SCAD gave me a strong art history as well as photography background.
This included the preservation and conversation of art work
abroad which directly helped me acquire jobs in my field.
SCAD photography professors have given me assistance to project myself in the Fine Art World. This support has been critical. I
have been in both group and solo shows. I have curated a show and had an internship with Joyce Tenneson as graphic designer for her AMAZING MEN photography book. In addition the JEPSON/ TELFAIR Museum accepted one of my pieces for their permanent collection.

Artists' Reception scheduled for May 17th, 2015
I am currently in my second year of the MFA program. My wife and I are originally from Franklin, Indiana. Since moving to Savannah in 2013, our son Felix was born (August 2014), and I'm thrilled that my schedule is allowing me so much time with him. The photo that was selected (Toy Soldier 2) is part of a larger series I am still working on. I have been documenting boys who participate in war-games and the environments created to simulate battle.

DEADLINE May 13th, 2015 Midnight EST Juror: Dan Burkholder
Wild, wild wilderness, it's grandeur and grace epically and intimately explored through photography.
Humans have always looked upon the beauty, majesty, and ingenuity of the world around them with reverent wonder. The regular rhythms of the sun and moon, the myriads of living creatures in all their splendid diversity, the magnificence of a flower, a butterfly’s wings or a snow crystal – The ancient Greeks aptly called the universe kosmos, a word denoting order and harmony. This underlying order is reflected in many intriguing patterns in nature.
Many of nature’s patterns are related to the golden section and the Fibonacci numbers. For instance, the golden spiral is a logarithmic or equiangular spiral – a type of spiral found in unicellular foraminifera, sunflowers, seashells, animal horns and tusks, beaks and claws, whirlpools, hurricanes, and spiral galaxies.
Darkroom Gallery is calling for photography that investigates this intrinsic magic in the natural world. From macro shots to large scale landscapes show us your examples of this otherworldly complexity within our natural realm.

CALLING FOR SUBMISSIONSDEADLINE April 15th, 2015 Midnight EST Juror: Chris Kovacs
Black & white photography is a timeless art; always relevant, always contemporary despite being historically ancient.
Photographer Robert Frank states,
Black
and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize the
alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected.
Darkroom
Gallery is calling for works that excel within these monochromatic
constraints. The absence of color adds a sort of purity to images,
shows the bones of a composition without the chaff. It allows for the
photographer top get creative within a variance of grays, whites, blacks
and sepias - abstraction is bred within restraint.
