This Month we are pleased to have Terri Warpinski, Professor of Art at the University of Oregon, along with the entire graduating class of the Advanced Photography Practice class at the University of Oregon, as Jurors for Mobile Magic IX.
LightBox will donate 20% of the Mobile Magic IX submission fees to the Advanced Photo Practice graduating class at the University of Oregon.
"The magic in mobile phone photography, for me, is the ease with which we are able to carry cameras around with us 24/7. The number of photographs being generated daily is mind-boggling. According to the webiste 1000memories, “Every 2 minutes today we snap as many photos as the whole of humanity took in the 1800s.” The quantum leap in that volume occurred with the emergence of the cell phone camera which was first released in 2000. The tragedy in that volume is that so many images are never seen. Mobile Magic gives us the opportunity to pause, reflect on, and acknowledge the significance of the photographs being created through this ubiquitous tool."
~ Terri Warpinski

Mobile phone images are part of everyday life. We nearly all have smart phones allowing us to create images with the immediacy of reaching into our pocket, using the processing tools of the myriad of apps. In our Mobile Magic Exhibits we wish to bring these uniquely creative images off of our phones and into the beauty of a fine photographic print.
Mobile Magic is a monthly exhibit for display in the gallery and online, opening during our regular Second Saturday monthly openings. Each month we display archival pigment prints of the top 25 juried images, selected by a renown juror from the photographic community. LightBox prints every submission as a 100% archival rag pigment print and mail them to the photographer.
These monthly exhibits give recognition to the unique qualities of mobile photography and also put a fine art print in everyones hands. There is a new exhibit every month, open to all photographers from around the world, and juried by the finest in the photographic art community today!
Mobile Magic exhibits are an mportant source of support for LightBox Photographic Gallery to help us continue our mission to promote creative and alternative photography on the North Coast of Oregon. We would like to invite you to submit again this month and to also help us by sharing this iopportunity with others you feel may be interested.
