CALL FOR ENTRIES: 30th Annual Juried Fine Art Competition and Exhibition
AUGUSTA, GA (4/14/10) - The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art in Augusta, Georgia is currently accepting entries for its 30th annual juried fine art competition, A Sense of Place 2010. The competition and exhibition is open to all U.S. artists ages 18 and older working in the following media:
drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture, and mixed media.
A Sense of Place 2010 seeks to recognize the outstanding quality and diversity of work being generated by contemporary American artists. The 2009 competition featured works from 37 states throughout the United States.
This year's juror is Betsy Cain, an acclaimed artist currently working in Savannah, Georgia. Cain will select three particularly outstanding works of art for receipt of cash merit awards, to be announced at the opening reception on September 17, 2010, and will conduct a gallery talk on the
juried exhibition for guests. Three cash prizes will be given, including a $750 Best of Show Award and two $500 Juror's Awards. Award recipients will be announced at the exhibition's opening reception on Friday, September 17, 2010. The exhibition will run September 17 - October 15, 2010.
The 2010 exhibition and competition is a Westobou Festival Endorsed Event. Begun in 2008, the annual Westobou Festival, held in Augusta, Georgia is a ten-day celebration of excellence in the arts, featuring a variety of performances and exhibitions by local, regional, and nationally-recognized

About Juror Betsy Cain
Betsy Cain is an acclaimed artist currently working in Savannah, Georgia. Recipient of the Governor's Award for Georgia Women in the Visual Arts, Ms. Cain has exhibited widely throughout the Southeast and beyond, with more than fifty solo and group shows to her credit. Her work is held in public
and corporate collections across the United States and abroad, including the High Museum of Art, Atlanta; the Telfair Museum of Art, Savannah; the Roswell Museum and Art Center, Roswell, NM; Chemical Bank, New York, NY; Coca Cola USA, Atlanta; and Hyatt Regency Hotels, Cologne, Germany. Ms. Cain holds BFA and MFA degrees from the University of Alabama.
