We connect with people, places or even situations. Sometimes, and for a variety of reasons this connection loosens and other times it is lost. What does “reconnection” mean to you? For example, what’s the relationship and connection that a photographer can have with their subject, the act of photographing or with photography itself? How or in what ways can we reconnect with other people, places, landscapes or situations? You can approach the topic of reconnection in both its narrow and broad sense. We are open to all approaches and ideas. Send us your best photographs! We want to see exciting work that responds to the theme (re-)CONNECT. Images can be shot in any format, using any camera, on film or digital. Submission is free! You will need to submit to lightreadingsmag@gmail.com the following: 1 – 5 images of your work (no signatures, watermarks or writing), attached to your email. Please do not insert the images on the email body. All images must be submitted as JPEGs (size 1900px on the longest side, 72dpi). The file name of your image must begin with the sequence number for the image followed by your full name. For example:  01_John Smith.jpeg. Two or three lines of text to explain your approach. Your Instagram name so we can tag you. The deadline to submit your entry is 30th September 2022 at 11.00 pm CEST. All entries will be assessed by the curator. Participants names will be announced on October 10th. Please note that LIGHTREADINGS reserves the right to decline exhibiting work that do not meet the above requirements or, in the curator’s judgement, does not match the theme.

Image as Object — The Tangible in the Intangible Ohio University School of Art Athens, OH Through the means of photography and visual media, we commemorate — a moment, a place, a person, a thought, a feeling, a concept. We work to recuperate and reimagine memories, dreams and facades. How do photographs and their ‘object-ness’ suppose to memorialize that which is otherwise always in flux? What are we trying to hold onto, if anything, in our images? Alternatives seeks submissions of poignant works that explore the artist’s interpretation of ‘image as object’, the physical manifestation of that which can’t otherwise be pinned down — the tangible in the intangible. Artists working broadly within the spectrum of image-based media, including conventional and non-traditional photographic processes, moving images and installations are welcome. The National Juried Photography Exhibition is held biennially in November at the Delaplaine as part of FOCUS, our month-long celebration of photography. Artists residing within the U.S. are invited to enter up to three (3) photographs for consideration. The entry fee is $35 per artist ($25 if the artist is a current member of the Delaplaine). All photographs, black & white, color, non-silver, computer-manipulated, digital, or pinhole are eligible.

The Colorado Photographic Arts Center announces its biennial juried student show. This year’s jurors are Yoav Friedlander and Dana Stirling, Co-Founders of Float Photo Magazine. Float Photo Magazine The exhibition will be a survey of work made by undergraduate and graduate students in photography from across the country and is intended to highlight the creative talents of emerging artists. There is no theme. Applicants must be current, undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at a post-secondary institution and not graduating before the end of the academic year 2022-2023.

The work of photography students emerging into the art world is how we picture the future. The Colorado Photographic Arts Center is having an open themed call for entry for current undergraduate and graduate students in photography. All capture types, subject matter, and photographic processes are eligible to submit. This show is your chance to demonstrate your talent and point of view!

The exhibition will be on display in CPAC’s gallery from November 25, 2022 – January 7, 2023.

Jennifer Blue will be presenting her thesis exhibition, The Reunion of Broken Parts, this Friday, 9/16, at 2 pm at Cedar House Gallery (122 E. 36^th Street). She will also be simulcasting via Zoom.

She will host an opening reception on Saturday, 9/17 at Cedar House from 6-9 pm. The reception will not be simulcast.

We do not accept submissions via emails.

Join exhibiting artists Julia Wilson (M.F.A., photography, 2018) and William Glaser (B.F.A., photography, 2017) in conversation with SCAD Museum of Art associate curator Ben Tollefson at this Supernatural! gallery talk on generative creative relationships. Merging their respective artistic practices and experimentation with photo-based processes, Wilson and Glaser have developed a remarkable personal and professional partnership. Pique your own collaborative practice as they share the inspirational exchanges that occur between creative partners!
