Why this matters for photographers
An art fair is where the business of art happens in real time. You'll see how galleries present and price photographic work, how dealers talk with collectors, and how artists build the relationships that lead to representation. Look for:
- Fay Gold Gallery. Represents the estates of Robert Mapplethorpe, Imogen Cunningham, and hosted exhibitions by Cindy Sherman and Helmut Newton.
- David Lusk Gallery. Its roster includes William Eggleston, William Christenberry and Walker Evans.
- Gallery MOMO. Its artists include photographer Ayana V Jackson, Roger Ballen, Andrew Tshabangu.
- Jackson Fine Art, one of the country's leading photography galleries, based in Atlanta
- Arnika Dawkins Gallery, an Atlanta gallery devoted to photography
- Atlanta Photography Group, the region's nonprofit photography organization
- SCAD Art Sales, which will have its own booth. You'll see how SCAD artists' work is presented to collectors.
You'll come back with a clearer sense of the art market, how artists connect with galleries and collectors, and the professional habits that sustain a creative career.
Prepare on Wednesday. Join Victoria Gildersleeve of SCAD Art Sales on Zoom session, Wednesday, September 30, at 7 p.m. Zoom link: https://scad.zoom.us/j/91487665660
Victoria will cover pricing artwork, talking with gallerists, navigating the art market, and turning what you see at the fair into steps for your own practice and career.
