Description:
SCAD presents “One Kind of Touch,” a thesis exhibition of experimental photography by M.F.A. candidate Bingqin (Zaccheo) Zhang. Informed by research into the interaction of energy sources with photographic material, Zaccheo Zhang "records" reactions and changes. Her unique process allows her to return to the experiments of early photography and connecting science and image making, replete with danger, challenges, and the unknown. This methodology reflects how the artists views the true meaning of photography – that of an adventure.
By shifting some of the control of the artist to the scientific process of photography, , the medium becomes a collaborative creator. This project allows the artist to examine the relationship between the artist and the medium, as well as the possibilities and potential of photography itself. Through photography, Zhang is able to capture the process of energy emission and disappearance, visualizing fleeting energy.
