Environmental Portraits call for entries...

Environmental Portraits
Juror: Elizabeth Avedon
Deadline: Monday, June 11, 2018
Exhibition prints due July 20, 2018
Gallery exhibition August 1 - September 1, 2018

An environmental portrait is an image made in a place where the subject lives, works, rests, or plays. This setting adds tremendously to the story of who the subject is-their trade, their passion, their fears, or simply how and where their time is spent.
We seek images in which an environment interacts with the subject to create a storied whole - images in which our interest is piqued and we are introduced to the unique world of the subject, enhancing our understanding of another being.
All methods of capture and processes are welcome.
We are very pleased that Elizabeth Avedon will be jurying and curating this exhibition. She will select approximately 35 images for exhibition in the gallery, and 35 for our Online Gallery Annex. The recipients of the Juror's Award and the Director's Award will each be entitled to a personal portfolio review by Ms. Avedon. more information here

Jennifer Folsom exhibit, Colorado

Jennifer Folsom to Exhibit Bare Witness Photographs in Solo Exhibition
Fort Collins, CO – April 19, 2018 – Savannah College of Art and Design MFA candidate Jennifer Folsom will present her thesis body of photographic work, Bare Witness, in a solo exhibition at Art Lab in Fort Collins, CO. The work will be on display from May 4 through May 6, 2018, and a public reception for the artist will be held on May 4 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
Folsom’s dynamic work exposes the male nude and is an exploration of gender, power dynamics, and breaking from traditional roles. Folsom’s photographs reveal interactions in which the stereotypical tropes of looking and being seen are rejected and new definitions and boundaries are proposed.
Folsom states, “This series comes at a pivotal time in our culture. As women seek to define the evolution of their roles in relationships, my work creates a dialog about how we see men, specifically nude men. Creating a conversation about the beauty and complexity of the male form seen through a woman’s eyes is an underrepresented part of the current discourse that surrounds male/female interactions and perceptions.”
Art Lab started in 2009 as a small group of creatives wishing to turn vacant storefronts into vibrant art spaces. The Art Lab is located at 239 Linden Street in Fort Collins, Colorado. The gallery is open Friday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The gallery telephone number is 970-829-1953.
About Jennifer Folsom:
Jennifer Folsom lives and works in Fort Collins, Colorado. She is currently an adjunct faculty member at the Front Range University where she teaches photography. She anticipates earning her MFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design in June 2018.

Students produce a complete portfolio based on the chosen topic and present the work to the community in a final exhibition. Through the investigation and visual exploration of a story pertinent to the local or regional community, students are made more aware of the link between photojournalism, the media and culture.
