Join inspirational speaker, writer and artist Victoria Price for The Magic Word: Unlocking the Key to Connection, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity, a lecture about building a healthy self-regard and creative practice.

Price speaks regularly about the daily practice of joy and the role of the arts in society, appearing on Good Morning America, and NPR's Morning Edition and Fresh Air with Terry Gross.

After the lecture, take advantage of the opportunity to speak to her about finding your own "magic word."

With over 40 programs, from National Historic Landmarks to National Trails, the National Park Service’s work extends beyond park boundaries. This year the National Historic Landmarks Program plans to highlight some of the special places in and around Savannah, GA, that are associated with NPS programs. We are sponsoring a photo contest to collect images of these places. The winning entries will be featured in our upcoming Discover Savannah Brochure.

Study Trip to SCAD FASH Museum at SCAD Atlanta

The School of Communication Arts in collaboration with The School of Fashion have arranged for a trip to SCAD Fash Museum at SCAD Atlanta. This is a great opportunity to SCAD Savannah students to take a trip to explore SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film at SCAD Atlanta. SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film celebrates fashion as a universal language, garments as important conduits of identity, and film as an immersive and the exhibit of photographer Omar Victor Diop. "Project Diaspora" and "Shoes: Pleasure and Pain," an exhibition organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, that explores the creativity, cultural significance and transformative power of shoes.

Bus coach fare and lunch provided free of charge to SCAD students. Bus departs from the SCAD Museum of Art at 6 a.m.

The theme for this event is “WRITE THE VISION” and it takes place on Thursday, April 20th, 3:00PM-7:00PM, at Romano Macaroni Grill, Oglethorpe Mall and other Community Businesses. We are honored to have multi-millionaire Ron Williams and city councilwoman Dr. Estelle Shabazz as our guest speakers! Filter Photo, Call for Proposals

Filter Photo hosts an annual call for proposals for the exhibition calendar at Filter Space. We welcome photographic proposals of all types, whether traditional or experimental, or coming from and emerging curator or a veteran artist. PDN competition DEADLINE 05/03/2017

PDN is seeking emerging fine-art photographers for The Curator, an annual competition that will culminate in a group show in New York City. Six winners will exhibit their work in a summer show with an opening reception. Their work will also be published in the Fine-Art Issue of PDN (August) and in a gallery on pdnonline.com, promoted to our network of more than 460,000 followers. Applaud our alumni award winners and attend a keynote by Jesse Hildreth (B.F.A. visual effects) prior to a screening of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” Hildreth, a senior lighting TD at Industrial Light & Magic in Vancouver, will share a behind the scenes look at his work on the film. Hildreth’s illustrious career at ILM comprises work on “Star Wars Episode 8,” “Sully,” “Jungle Book” and “The Martian.”

Bruce Gilden and his photography are inextricably linked. Hours as a child looking at tough guys on the bustling streets of Brooklyn from his second-story window shaped Gilden’s attraction to his photographic subjects. Gilden is a street photographer. He is best known for his candid close-up photos of people on the streets of New York City, using a flashgun. He has had numerous books of his work published, and is the subject of the documentary film: Misery Loves Company: The Life and Death of Bruce Gilden (2007). He has worked in black & white photography most of his life, but recently has begun shooting color and digital in recent years.  Learn More . . .

Exploring introductory and intermediate techniques of exposure, development, scanning and printing of black- and-white film and print materials, this course consists of a special emphasis on tonal control through the creative application of the Zone System. Areas of investigation include film scanning, paper characteristics, developer choice and fabrication, print size, multi-filter printing and chemical after-treatment. Further concentration is placed on aspects of design, composition, perception and content in black-and-white photographs. Prerequisite(s): PHOT 150.

PHOT 403 Professional Practices for Fine Art Photography, Providing students with a comprehensive introduction to accepted practices in the marketing of fine art photography, this course takes a multifaceted approach to professional art business concerns. Course topics include how to approach galleries, portfolio-reviewing events, legal considerations, collectors, museum practices, portfolio preparation and self-promotion. Prerequisite(s): PHOT 219. Important topics covered throughout the quarter; juried shows, larger competitions, prizes/award nominations, exhibiting, commercial galleries/gallery representation, artist representation, the non-profit/community space, artist and residencies, copyright, publish a book, self-publishing, the curator, museum work, framing/exhibition materials. biennials, art fairs, portfolio review events, conferences, organizations, the workshop community, the arts and academia. Throughout the quarter the topics of how to present your work as an artist and outlets for getting your work on the art market are discussed. Venues for documentary photographers are covered. All aspects of presenting your work to the public outside of commercial job venues are presented. The Art Fair, the gallery relationship, working with curators, exhibition opportunities, building your artist resume, attending graduate school and many other topics surrounding being successful as a photographic artist.

SCADstyle 2017 kicks off Thursday, April 6 at 6 p.m. at Arnold Hall with "Play at Your Own Risk," a presentation by Jessica Walsh, art director and partner at Sagmeister & Walsh. Walsh will offer advice on how to conscientiously cultivate freedom by working in a state of play.
