Calling all Phonographers

RJG Calls for Submissions
Be a part of an exciting summer project!  July 2012, we will organize an exhibit entitled Ways of Seeing:  Phoneography.  The installation will include no more than 500 photographs.  At least 250 of the photographs selected will be by artists on our gallery roster or artists in our our broader network who we respect as professionals.  RJG is proud to open the selection process to a larger audience and launch an open submission.  If you are interested in submitting your work, please see guidelines.

Photography is arguably the most democratic medium of the visual arts.  Easily transportable in a pocket, smartphones have pushed the medium into new directions as millions-both pros and amateurs-have the capability to record an image with immediacy and intuition.  Further, that image can circulate widely and immediately through social media outlets. Ways of Seeing: Phoneography explores the possibilities of smart phone photography, its future as a fine art form, and affects on modern society.

Interior Design Lecture

Hank Forrest- Thursday, May 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the SCAD Museum of Art auditorium. You are welcome to come a bit earlier at 5:00 p.m. when Dean Sottile will be welcoming the new architecture chair, Gregory Hall.

Hank Forrest’s professional experience encompasses more than 30 years as a lighting designer. Early in his career, he specialized as a lighting and technical consultant to photographers throughout North America, joining Fisher Marantz Stone in the late 1980s to specialize in lighting architecture. His exposure to critically viewing scenes "behind the lens" has flowed into his present day work as a Senior Associate Principal at Fisher Marantz Stone, giving his projects a sense of life and humanism beyond the architectural aspects.

Summer Internship NYC

Jack Studios in NYC is looking for summer interns. It is a very busy studio and a really great place to learn what the industry is really like. There are two shifts, day and night, both with different aspects to the job. Interested students should contact David Perkins at david@jackstudios.com.

Internship NYC

Photo studio Internship: jack studios, one of the largest in NYC

The studio is looking for interns to help out during the busy season. Its a really great place to learn what the industry is really like. There are basically two shifts, day and night, both with different aspects to the job. I do the night shift. Its my job to test, repair, prep, and set up equipment for the next day. The night shift makes sure everything is perfect when clients come in in the morning. The day shift deal more closely with the clients through out the day. They hand out equipment as needed and keep track of everything in the system. They also help to solve any kind of problem that may come up at a moments notice, such as finding a rare piece of equipment and getting it to the student by the hour... there is obviously much more to the job than this, but its hard to explain it all in an email.

Both shifts need some help, so if you happen to know anyone coming to the city soon and is interested just have them get in touch with me at david@jackstudios.com or David Perkins david@davidperkinsphotography.com

EXTENDED DEADLINE

2012 LUCEO Student Project Award Call for Entries
EXTENDED DEADLINE May 15th, 2012

Central to LUCEO’s mission is our belief in the importance of long-term projects. We also understand that developing photographers need support. To advance both of these causes, LUCEO has created the LUCEO Student Project Award, which will be disbursed annually to a talented student photographer in support of a significant and developing body of work.

This year’s recipient will receive $1,000 and receive mentorship for the project from one LUCEO member.

Finalists will be announced in late May. A select panel of four judges presided over by moderator Michael Wichita, Director of Photography for AARP Bulletin, will narrow the decision to one winner who will be announced during LOOK3: The Festival of the Photograph.
