Mark Edmundson, Ph.D., is the university professor of English at the University of Virginia. His published works include “Literature Against Philosophy,” “Plato to Derrida: A Defense of Poetry,” “Teacher: The One Who Made the Difference,” and “Why Read?” His new work, “The Fine Wisdom and Perfect Teachings of the Kings of Rock and Roll: A Memoir,” will be published soon.
In this lecture, Edmundson weaves together his own experiences as a high-school student and as a college graduate, to discuss the joys and merits of reading. His wit, personal narrative and unusual trajectory into academia will undoubtedly be provocative, entertaining and inspiring. Edmundson's lecture is sponsored by the School of Liberal Arts, and is free and open to the public.
