Documentary Photographer, Michelle Cornejo, will exhibit her newest work- a visual documentation of the people and lands of Sarayaku, a small town in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
The Kichwa town of Sarayaku in the Ecuadorian Amazon has been struggling with illegal and unconstitutional acts of oil companies for years.However, this show illustrates neither their struggles with the military presence in their “block” nor the violence they experience from the oil companies and even their own neighboring communities who have been paid off by these oil giants.This show, rather, is about the people of Sarayaku, their lives and their beautiful lands. All proceeds from the sale of the images will go to the people of Sarayaku and their cause.
To prove to these oil companies that petroleum is no longer our #1 demand, the artist requests that gallery patrons ride their bikes, skateboards, scooters, rollerblades, etc to the event if possible.
SARAYAKU: RIVER OF CORN will run October 24-29 at Desotorow Gallery. An opening reception will be held on Friday, October 24th at 7pm.
About the Artist: Michelle Cornejo strives to explore and expose social issues in the world.She uses her images to change attitudes, behavior and policy.She is hopeful that her images will serve as a stepping-stone in the slow process of achieving change.

Alumnus Dan Saelinger is a successful, commercial photographer based in NYC. He is looking for an intern for Winter and/or Spring quarter. Remember that interships can be taken for credit on both the UG and GR level.
Seeking a winter and/or spring intern for 2009, start and end dates are completely flexible. Responsibilities will include assisting on shoots, production, retouching, billing, preparing promotions, and general studio work. In general it's an opportunity to be involved in all aspects with a busy NYC photo studio. Ideally candidates will have a basic understanding of digital photography and studio lighting. Rado and SCAD announce a collaborative exhibition of works inspired by the Ceramica line of watches, to be showcased at the first annual Women in Design event hosted by Elle Décor Nov. 17 at the Pratt House. All female SCAD alumni and student artists from any department are welcome to submit work.
A panel of five leading designers as well as representatives from Rado and Elle Décor will judge the submissions; the winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to New York from Elle Décor and a Rado watch. The winner’s work will be featured in Elle Décor magazine (and perhaps online) as well as the Rado newsletter, which reaches 10,000 retailers worldwide. The work will also be viewed by 200 members of New York’s elite design community.
Submissions may be 2D or 3D representations of works in any medium and may include renderings. Designs may be, but do not have to be, related to time but must reflect the look, form, craft or technology of the Ceramica designs. Designs must be submitted in Photoshop or Illustrator files or as PDFs or JPEGs, although they may be created originally in any program. Artists may submit up to five designs. Send files to artprint@scad.edu. Submissions must be received by Oct. 16.
Files must be embedded with the following information within the File Info field: status at SCAD, full name, major/year of graduation, hometown, title of image, phone number and e-mail address. The following naming structure must be used: RADOSCAD08/Last name/first initial/brief title/year shot. Artists may showcase their designs in their portfolios or in appropriate exhibitions following the event, but may not use their designs commercially, as the inspiration begins with Rado product/intellectual property. Due to the delicate nature and cost of the equipment, only qualified students will be allowed to use this gear. Requirements are as follows: Currently enrolled in any studio class or already completed a studio lighting class. The training session will be held during most 2nd level studio classes but for those who are not currently enrolled in that class and want to use this gear there will be one training session held this Friday. These digital set-ups are top of the line, expensive and an industry standard, with that being said you do have to have proper training for the safety of the gear and the safety of you bank account. Just like every other piece of gear in the building, you are responsible for everything you checkout.

The Adobe CS4 Roll-out event SCAD is co-sponsoring with Adobe will be on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Trustees Theater. This event coincides with the Adobe CS4 rollout and will provide students, faculty and staff a preview of CS4 presented by the top designers and programmers at Adobe. They will be highlighting new and enhanced features, and outlining ways these can be implemented within the daily use of the Adobe products and in the classroom environment.Th
