Published by Damiani and distributed by Thames & Hudson the book will be available from major retailers. About the Photographer: Todd R. Darling is an American documentary photographer based in Hong Kong for sixteen years, where he began his career photographing the Umbrella Movement for Polaris Images in 2014.  He studied Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism at the International Centre of Photography and the Eddie Adams workshop XXX in 2017. Todd recently completed work on a documentary project that began in 2016, about Paterson NJ. The project, inspired by local poets William Carlos Williams and Allen Ginsberg, is a lyrical interrogation of the American dream told through the singular experience of America’s first industrial city and its people. He’s currently studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

As photographers, we are adept at seeing beneath the surface of our subjects, and often find in them the beauty, poignancy, and poetry that exist in ordinary moments. For this exhibition, we seek the simple poetic elegance of the ordinary. All captures and processes are welcome.

We are honored that Douglas Beasley will be the juror for The Poetry of the Ordinary. He will select up to 40 images for exhibition in our Middlebury, Vermont gallery and another 40 for our Online Gallery. All 80 images will be reproduced in the exhibition catalog and remain permanently on the PhotoPlace Gallery website

Deadline:  February 8, 2021
Exhibition prints due: March 11, 2021

I am excited to share with all of you the opportunity to attend a talk by SCAD MFA Photography alumna Meg Griffiths with her collaborator Frances Jakubek, Tuesday, January 26, 8:00 pm EST.

SPE’s Women’s Caucus (@spewomens) is pleased to present “A Yellow Rose Project: How Far Have We Come In 100 Years?”

Meg Griffiths (@megsheagriffiths) and Frances Jakubek’s (@franciepants) project, @ayellowroseproject, brings together over 100 women all across the country making photographic work in response, reflection, or reaction to the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Griffiths and Jakubek will discuss the virtual archive, book, and exhibitions that make up the project.

August 18th 2020 marked the centennial of the 19th Amendment and a woman's right to vote. A Yellow Rose Project is a large-scale collaboration made by over 100 women all across the country who were invited to make photographic work in response, reflection, or reaction to the ratification of the 19th Amendment.  Co-Founders, collaborators and participants, Meg Griffiths and Frances Jakubek, will discuss the virtual archive, book, and exhibitions that make up the project. Griffiths and Jakubek say, "Our mission in researching the complication of this anniversary was to gain a deeper understanding of American history and culture from this moment in time. Though this movement granted rights to some women, and this achievement in itself is to be acknowledged and celebrated, the struggle did not end there. It was not until much later that all American women, regardless of race, were given the same privilege."

How many people can you reach by pushing a button? Do the sheer numbers matter, or the people behind the numbers?  Are your efforts in having a presence online better served by being “followed” by a broad audience, or by strategically posting with searchable hashtags towards being “found” by curators, gallerists, art consultants, photo researchers and private collectors searching for specific visual content?  Can you - should you - have an on-line presence to satisfy both audiences?  


In this illustrated lecture Mary Virginia Swanson introduces strategies for using social media platforms including Instagram to engage followers in your creative practice and move your career forward.  Time will be allocated for a Q&A period.

If it's October, it's time for Atlanta Celebrates Photography! On Thursday, our ACP featured programming begins with the first of our weekly, 30-minute livestreams, "History Unwound: Exploring Photography's Greatest Hits (in reverse)." We'll take a look at the history of the medium through the cameras (and formats) that created some of your favorite photographs; in this first installment, we'll feature the classic 35mm rangefinder. Thursday will also bring the online exhibition of "Picturing Justice" in collaboration with Atlanta Legal Aid.

Each week we'll send an update with all the photo-based events & exhibitions to fit your calendar, and this week, there's a sizeable list of exhibitions currently on view(both in-person and virtually).
