Artist at Non-Fiction Gallery
 

Savannah, GA – The Non-Fiction Gallery is pleased to invited you to the Senior Thesis Exhibition of local SCAD artist, Chang Yang. The opening reception will take place on Friday, October 20, 2017  at 5pm, located at 1522 Bull Street. Yang seems to find inspiration in every day people, as he manages to capture the nature of those he encounters. 

“My work reflects previous travel experiences that have inevitably surrounded me with strangers. These people are now a subject of my interest,” states Yang. Charcoal is his choice of medium used to depict the impressions left by many. Yang goes on to mention, "I strongly believe that there is an intrinsic beauty contained in every human being, and I attempt to transfer that onto papers." Come out to admire the “charcoal strangers;” the very people that inspired Chang's work. The opening reception is free and open to the public.

Complimenting the artist on Saturday, October 21st, 2017; “Schiele,” a New York based chamber music ensemble, will be performing from 6pm-7:30pm. The atmosphere will be filled with pieces featuring Mozart’s “Dissonance,” Quarter No. 19, and Shelley Washington’s folk and jazz-inspired composition. Join us as we celebrate the work of Artist Chang Yang and the featuring ensemble, Schiele. Tickets can be purchased at https://schiele.eventbrite.com for $10. Tickets maybe sold at the door but seats are limited, so get them early!

Rules: Maximum two (2) entries per person. Images uploaded between 9/15/17 and 12/31/17 are eligible for 2017 Fall Semester contest. Winner will be selected by the Tamron EDU team. All selections are final. Winner must reside in the USA and be a currently enrolled student. Winner must sign an affidavit confirming the winning image does not infringe on any other’s rights and enrollment in stated school or university. Winner may select any Tamron lens in his/her choice of available mount.

 

Belle Nature de Lacoste: Perseveretrees and Beautés Bleues Exhibition

Hailee Potter is a photographer located in Savannah, GA. "Belle Nature de Lacoste" is a collection of handmade cyanotypes and archival inkjet black and white photographic prints that explore the nature of Lacoste, France. "Peseveretrees" explores the dynamic nature of trees as if they were individual people. Their physical characteristics create a metaphor about the struggles of life. Where adaption is found, one can also find growth. By defeating challenges, strength is developed. Nontraditional perspective points and tight framing break the traditional norms of portraiture, creating balance between chaos and peace. Standing firm on their own, these trees have persevered through many things in their life. "Beautés Bleues" explores the cyanotype printing process of picture making. By coating this archival watercolor paper with ammonium iron citrate and potassium ferricyanide, I use found leaves, branches, feathers and other objects found in nature to create handmade photographs. The images are exposed to the sun, leaving imprints of the objects, turning everything else blue. These handmade images are local to Lacoste, France.

Submit Work to SCAD Open Studio-Photography & Printmaking, Deadline for submissions Oct. 1

The SCAD exhibitions department invites SCAD Photography and Printmaking students, professors, staff and alumni to submit entries for SCAD Savannah's Open Studio Night on October 27, 2017

The submission deadline is 11:59 p.m. on October 1.

Notification of selected works for Open Studio 2017 will be issued by end of day on October 4, but the SCAD Exhibitions jury may view submissions as they come in and some artists may receive early notification of acceptance.

All accepted works must be delivered ready to hang/install by 5pm on October 20. Works on paper (including drawings, photo and printmaking) must be framed. All framing should look professional. "Glass with clips" and plastic craft store frames are not acceptable. SCAD Exhibitions reserves the right to reject work from the exhibit for poor presentation and quality issues.

Accepted works may also be included on the SCAD Art Sales website (scadartsales.com) for the duration of the exhibition at the discretion of SCAD Art Sales staff. If you would like work considered for SCAD Art Sales website, the deadline for submissions is September 27th.

All work must be for sale. Artwork in all mediums will be considered.

Multiple entries require multiple submission forms.
Example: An artist submitting 5 artworks will have to go through the online submission process 5 times.

If an artist's work is accepted, they will receive a consignment form and new vendor paperwork via email.

Submit Now for 2018 Edition

Port City Review is SCAD's annual student arts journal. The book is unique because it's judged, curated and designed by students. The 2018 edition will be the sixth edition of the journal. An exhibition of accepted works will be held in Spring 2018. The deadline to submit is 11:30 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2017.
GALLERY SHOW: Certain pieces selected for publication may be invited to be displayed at an exhibition set for March 23 to April 8, 2017, at Alexander Hall Gallery. Students may sell their works at this exhibition.
There are several categories from which to choose; please choose the correct category for the type of work you want to submit. Submissions will only be considered from students enrolled at the time of submission.
When submitting to any category, please remove your name from the actual submission file (if possible), as to keep the judging process completely blind. Your name and other identifying details on your submission application will be withheld from the judges.
Visual submissions should be 300 DPI or higher, and saved as JPEG, PDF or PNG files. Please do not submit TIFF or ZIP files as these files are not supported and may not be judged. Written submission submissions should be saved as Doc or DocX files (no PDFs, please). There is no word limit on submissions, but submissions will be edited for length for publication in the printed journal.
For audio submissions, MP3 and WAV files are accepted, and there is no time limit. For video and animation submissions, MOV, MP4 and AVI files are accepted, and there is no time limit.
Certain works deemed pornographic, violent or otherwise unacceptable for publication, will not be considered by the jury. Files submitted in unreadable file formats will be rejected from the competition.

SPE Student Scholarships

 

SPE Student Awards for Innovations in Imaging

DEADLINE: October 15th, 2017

All SPE student members are eligible to apply for a scholarship to offset the cost of attending SPE's 2018 annual conference in Philadelphia. Ten awards are offered based on merits of submitted portfolios and include a $500 travel stipend.
