RITES OF PASSAGE
JUNIORS, SENIORS, and GRADUATES ONE-YEAR OUT$300 BEST OF SHOW AWARD
This exhibit is limited to artists who have graduated or plan to graduate in 2011, 2012, or 2013 from an undergraduate program of art or design. Every year Manifest surveys work by students and recent graduates of art and design programs, seeking to assemble, promote, and document examples of the excellence being achieved by 'new' artists. For a 8th year in a row, we offer this challenge to students in regional, national, and international college programs to show us what you've got, bring it off campus, and share it with the broad Manifest network and viewing public. NOW OPEN TO JUNIORS AND RECENT GRADUATES! Manifest's is now seeking submissions for the Rites of Passage 2012 exhibit. All submissions must be submitted no later than April 18, 2012.. One exhibit will feature the best work from artists about to receive or recently awarded an undergraduate degree from a regional, national, or international college art or design program. All entrants must have received or be scheduled to receive a college degree in 2011, 2012, or 2013, and provide an academic reference’s contact info. Catalog: Manifest will produce a full-color catalog documenting the work in Rites of Passage. Exhibitors will receive one free copy of the catalog. BREAKING BOUNDARIES IV STUDENT COMPETITION & EXHIBITION CALL FOR ENTRIES:: 2012 PINGYAO, CHINAA INTERNATIONAL PHOOTOGRAPHY FESTIVALL Photography students are invited to participate in this free juried exhibition of the best of American College and University student photography. Accepted work will be exhibited at the 12th Annual Pingyao, China International Photography Festival, held each September in the 2,700-year-old walled village, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The festival attracts upwards of 100,000 international visitors, with exhibitions held in multiple venues including ancient temples, factories, and warehouses. REQUIREMENTS:: Students are eligible to submit up to 3 high resolution images (no size limitation) on a non-returnable CD or DVD, or upload to a Dropbox account. Entries must include: • • Low resolution jpeg versions of the images (72 ppi with 1280 pixels as the longest side) • • Contact information • student is enrolled • Accepted entries will be printed and framed in China. Lecture April 4

The Art History Department brings: Michael Skalka the Conservation Administrator for the Conservation Division at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. His lecture "The Museum as Classroom" will share his current research which addresses craft, materials, and conservation of paintings from the Gallery's collection. His visit will share new digital images from his recent conservation of a number of works and his on-going projects that contribute to the Art Materials Collection and Study Center and the Research Program and Advanced Training Fellowship in Imaging Science.

Writing Workshops

Spring 2012 workshop series

This upcoming Friday, April 6th, we have a citation series that will be presented in the Arnold Hall Auditorium. From 2-4:45 p.m. Jennifer Johnson will present information on APA, MLA, and Chicago style citations, respectively.

Also, on April 13th, we will be hosting an Artist Statement workshop from3-4:30 p.m. in the Jen Library, room 118.

All students are welcome to attend both sessions, but for the Artist Statement session seating is limited and we request that students reserve a spot by writing write@scad.edu.

The ARTstor Travel Awards are back! Five winners will receive $1,500 each in support of educational and scholarly activities. The contest is open to graduate students, faculty, scholars, curators, educators, and librarians in any discipline. To apply, submit one or more ARTstor image groups and a brief essay that creatively and compellingly demonstrates how the image group(s) is useful for teaching, research, or scholarship.
