Small Works Call for Entries
"SMALL WORKS 2010"

The SCAD exhibitions department invites SCAD students, faculty, alumni and staff submissions for the annual "Small Works 2010" juried exhibition. Work must measure 18 inches or less in all directions, including the frame if applicable. All work must be for sale, and the artist’s price may not exceed $250. There is no limit to the number of entries an artist may submit; a small, concise body of work is encouraged.
To submit work for consideration, e-mail completed entries to callforentries@scad.edu using "Small Works 2010" in the subject line (incomplete submissions will not be considered):
• Image(s) of individual works, image file titled to match the title of the work. Images must show completed work(s), and images of 2-D work must incorporate the frame if applicable.
• Word document including full contact information (name, mailing address, e-mail address, phone number) with a checklist of works submitted which must include full credit information (title of work, medium, dimensions, year, artist price). Please note that for faculty, alumni and staff, artist price is marked up 50 percent, 30 percent for matriculated students.
• A word document résumé and/or CV including exhibition history (separated into group and solo shows), awards and honors. Please do not include contact information or graphics.
Deadline for submissions is Oct. 4, 2010
Artists will be notified of a decision in a timely fashion.

Photo Conservation Workshop
Care and Identification of Photographs

This 4-day workshop is an introduction to the history, identification, and preservation of photographic materials. Participants will acquire hands-on identification skills and learn practical photograph preservation techniques. Using handheld 60x microscopes and a large set of photographic and photomechanical samples, they will learn how a variety of processes were created, why they look the way they do, and how they deteriorate. Knowledge about photographic processes is essential to their preservation and leads to a greater appreciation of the aesthetics and history of photographic prints.
Preservation topics include enclosures, handling guidelines, environmental monitoring, the effects of temperature and relative humidity on collections, and the importance of cold storage for certain photographic materials.
Processes examined in detail include but are not limited to the following: daguerreotype, albumen, collodion and gelatin printing-out processes (POP), matte collodion, gelatin silver, photogravure, offset litho, letterpress halftone, collotype, chromogenic color, inkjet, and dye sublimation. Group ID sessions, using a digital microscope and screen projection, will allow participants to practice their identification skills in a guided setting.
The registration fee for this 4-day workshop is $595 and includes a handheld microscope, and a workshop notebook with lecture handouts, Quick ID Sheets for each process, and a selection of readings on photograph preservation. The Basic Photographic Sample Set, consisting of 18 identified photographic and photomechanical processes, is available with registration for $75.
Due to the hands-on nature of this workshop, the number of participants will be limited to 12.

Savannah magazine captivates and inspires the savvy reader with an engaging, authentic vision of the region's elegant lifestyle. As the area's only city magazine, Savannah delivers the witty inside scoop on the city's creative leadership, natural beauty, fine architecture, soulful culture, rich history and bright future.
Summary of Internship:
Savannah magazine distinguishes itself by featuring a premier level of photography in all its platforms. We are currently seeking photography interns who are passionate about the magazine industry to assist our editorial and art departments in carrying out our mission. The interships will involve conceptual photography, event coverage and administrative work. Photography interns will be tasked with contribution to our Savannah Buzz, Style and Seen sections in addition to SavannahMagazine.com. Interns will report to the Savannah magazine office for regular feedback, assignments and mentoring sessions. The unpaid internships are available to college students who are eligible to receive college credit for their service as an intern to Savannah magazine.
