This is war - Robert Capa Video

A new exhibition at the Barbican Art Gallery in London provides a chance to see the work of photographer Robert Capa, once described as the greatest war photographer in the world.

Three boxes of his work containing over 3,500 negatives previously thought to have been lost were recently unearthed, and here Cynthia Young, the curator of these pictures at the International Center of Photography in New York, speaks about these and some of his more famous pictures.

If you would like to be considered for an entry-fee grant (the Photography Dept. will pay your entry fee) please submit 15 images on CD.

Bea Nettles Artist's Talk This Thursday!

New Savannah Exhibition Space

The following announcement from Bill Dawers:

Scot Hinson and I are going to begin managing a gallery space -- blankspace. It will be available for rent by the week, presumably to SCAD students for the most part but we hope others will also be interested. When the space is not being rented, we hope to launch a variety of group and solo shows. Inquiries welcome.

As many of you may know, Scot owned Mode on Broughton Street for many years and is still actively involved in design work, so we will introduce the space with a show of art, furniture and design on Thursday, Oct. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. It's at 112 East 4oth St. in a building that Scot co-owns with a couple of other people. We obviously hope to get a wide variety of guests at that event, but are especially interested in making contact with those who may wish to use blankspace themselves or who would be in a position to spread the word about its availability to other artists, students in need of thesis shows, and the like.

Guerrilla artist's fake Pet shot

Guerrilla artist Banksy has opened his first official exhibition in New York. The fake pet shop aims to question "our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming".

M.F.A. photography candidate Anne Conway Jennings' photographic series explores her personal life, the past and places that surround her to express the intersection of truth and fiction as it appears in the imaginary realm of the photographic image. A reception is scheduled Oct. 24, 6-8 p.m. The exhibition and reception are free and open to public.
