Arte Laguna Prize

 Arte Laguna Prize

The Photography Department is excited to announce that we had a alum, Patrick Cox, and current MFA student, Taylor Edgerton, as finalists in Arte Laguna Prize!

Patrick Cox's work, Fragmented Fashion (seen below), was chosen as a Finalist for the 18th Edition of Arte Laguna Prize.

Taylor Edgerton's work Grandma's Chair was chosen as a Finalist for the 19th Edition of Arte Laguna Prize. See Taylor's work and what she had to say about it below. (First image is the work on display in Vince)

The archival inkjet print of my photograph "Grandma's Chair" was chosen by the Arte Laguna Prize Jury from over 20,000 works in two editions as a Finalist for the 19th Edition of the Arte Laguna Prize in Venice, Italy. The work is displayed largely at 50.80 in x 63.50 in.

This photograph was taken on large format Kodak 400 film.

The subject is my great-grandmother's chair in a field our family still owns.
This field undergoes various transformations throughout the year, cultivating crops such as tobacco, corn, and cotton. The photograph was taken in April of 2022, when the field was entirely covered in pink weeds, providing a striking and picturesque backdrop for the image. The land it is placed in has been passed down through generations of my family; owned by one of the only few black families that still own land just outside of the city limits of my hometown of Metter, Georgia. This is a still of a chair that represents the generations of ancestors who once sat in it and stood on the land they fought to keep from white buyers in the city.

This field has not produced this backdrop again since I took this photo.

I cannot thank my professors, mentors and peers at SCAD enough for the continuous support to be able to experience all of these opportunities. Thank you for all you do!

Warmest regards,

Taylor Edgerton

Please take a moment to congratulate them on this fantastic accomplishment!!
