CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: THIS LAND

Presenting Exhibitions of Juried Fine Art Photography Since 2010
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
THIS LAND

"We are the children of
our landscape."
- Lawrence Durrell

The land is always with us and we are a part of it, like it or not. From almost the very beginning human activity has had an influence on the natural landscape, sometimes subtle and sometimes blatantly destructive. The observation that the earth is now going through rapid changes is hard to refute. Though there's still some controversy over how much human activity is contributing to environmental change it's happening, and we as photographers are in the unique position of being able to document what was, what is, and what is to become. There's both ugliness and extreme beauty in the landscape, and its changing colors and forms, giving us the opportunity to create both art and statement.

For This Land we're looking for photos that express the connectivity of the individual, the photographer, to the world around. What do you see when you're hiking in the mountains or taking a walk in a city park? How do you see it - through the scope of a wide angle lens or through details selectively framed? We'd like to see your expression of your connection to the land as well as your vision of your personal landscape. This will be deeply spiritual for some and more matter-of-fact for others; the important factor is presenting the world, your world, as you uniquely see it.

Juror for This Land is Craig Blacklock, an internationally recognized fine art landscape photographer specializing in the interface of land and water. As a workshop instructor and lecturer, Craig has influenced thousands of photographers across the country. While he has photographed over much of the country, most of Blacklock’s 18 books have focused on wild areas of Lake Superior. Blacklock’s photographs are widely exhibited, and included in many collections, including the Tweed Museum of Art and the Minnesota Marine Art Museum. His many awards include a Minnesota Book Award, 3 IPPYs, two PubWest Book Design Awards, many Midwest Book Awards, a Pinnacle Book Award, and an International Color Award (2nd place book category), and he was the 2018 recipient of the George Morrison Award from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council.

Call for Entries: CHILDHOOD

©Anne Berry

“Children are not like us. They are beings apart: impenetrable, unapproachable. They inhabit not our world but a world we have lost and can never recover. We do not remember childhood -- we imagine it. We search for it, in vain, through layers of obscuring dust, and recover some bedraggled shreds of what we think it was.” — Penelope Lively

We are interested in seeing images that reflect memories of childhood, whether through allusion to your own experience, or your current experience with a child. All capture and processing methods are welcome.

We are very pleased that Anne Berry will curate this exhibit. She will select up to 35 images for exhibition in the Middlebury, Vermont gallery, and another 35 images for the Online gallery. All 70 images will appear in the exhibit catalog. While the Gallery exhibit is open, the Online selections will be projected in a continuous loop in the gallery.

Black & White Photography Awards!

Love Black & White?
This one’s for you.
LensCulture is thrilled to announce the return of our Black & White Photography Awards!
We’re seeking remarkable photographic work that plays with the dynamic relationship between light, dark and all the tones in between. Texture, shape, line and form are often hailed as the heroes of black and white photography. Show us how you’re interpreting these design elements (or abandoning them altogether!) to create contemporary monochrome images and series.
Through this competition, our aim is to uncover photographers from diverse backgrounds and experience levels, and connect them with global audiences and career-changing opportunities. This year, we’re thrilled to exhibit the winners in New York City during the inaugural Paris Photo New York, an international fair dedicated to photography!
Scroll down for more information about the exhibition, award benefits, our international jury and our free entry option for single image submissions (Free Entry Deadline: 25 September).
Don’t forget, if you enter a series or 5+ images you’re eligible for a free submission review - submit today to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity for feedback and growth!

Abandoned Buildings

Abandoned Buildings

Submit your photos for free
Deadline: Thursday September 19, 2019
Life keeps evolving. People move from one place to another looking for more modern places that will house their needs. The buildings of the past remain empty, standing alone, narrating their stories to anyone who has the time or the mood to listen to them. Each building a different story, yet the same as the final reslult remains the same. Places not serving any purpose any more, left alone to remind people of a different era when things were different from what they are now, to contribute to our knowledge of the past.
We are interested in seeing such abandoned buildings from different parts of the world, each telling its own story. All means accepted.

Choices Announced: Monday September 23, 2019
Exhibition: Friday November 1 – Wednesday November 13, 2019
