#AmtrakTakeMeThere Social Media Residency

The #AmtrakTakeMeThere Social Media Residency aims to showcase how people from different walks of life travel by rail. By way of social media, our chosen residents will share their individual experiences aboard our long distance trains while engaging users through their respective online communities.

We’re not looking for glitzy influencers with millions of followers who quit their day job to travel the world.

If you’re interested, we hope you’re a leader in your social media community, and your creativity and energy allows you to connect with your followers at a deeper level. You daydream about cross-country adventures, and as an unconventional traveler, you'd bring a diverse and unique perspective to travel. You feel like the #AmtrakTakeMeThere Social Media Residency is on track with your passions, and you could probably come up with a better train pun than that.

Bryce Giesmann’s thesis exhibition

Bryce Giesmann's Forlorn Terroir Art Exhibit to be Featured in the Robert A. Peck Gallery

The Central Wyoming College art department will host Bryce Giesmann’s thesis exhibition called Forlorn Terroir Jan. 11-Feb. 26 in the Robert A. Peck Arts Center gallery. There will be an art reception Feb. 6 at 6-7pm.
Giesmann is about to complete his Master of Fine Art in photography through Savannah College of Art and Design online program. His exhibition is a series of photographs which serve as metaphors for Giesmann’s personal experiences struggling with mental disorders of depression and anxiety.
Just after I was diagnosed with clinical depression I started teaching myself basic photography. That quickly became an obsession. I always knew I was going to do something with art in my life from a young age. Art is a way of life and it chose me. ”

A Color Moment

A Color Moment
Juror: Arthur Meyerson
Deadline: Monday, January 14, 2019
Exhibition prints due February 21, 2019
Gallery exhibition March 7, 2019 - April 6, 2019
A successful color photograph finds color as an essential element. Without color, the impact of the image would be significantly reduced. When used well, color coalesces with the other elements of the image to create an atmosphere, an emotional response, a sense of place. Effective use of color can take your breath away, zing your eyes, grab your heart, and celebrate light.
The photographs in this exhibit will be chosen less for technique and more for the pure passion captured in a moment in which color is a key element.
We are very pleased that Arthur Meyerson will be jurying and curating this exhibition. He will select approximately 35 images for exhibition in the gallery, and 35 for our Online Gallery Annex. The recipients of the Juror's Award and the Director's Award will each be entitled to a personal portfolio review by Mr. Meyerson.

“As a curator interested in what’s happening now, it was exciting to
get to see artists’ submissions from around the world applying for this opportunity through Trestle Gallery. Julia Wilson stood out as one who
has honed her skills in capturing
the world around her. I gravitated to her painterly approach to the image and her unconventional use of her personal computer as camera. There is an intimacy yet universal experience that she captures in her work.”

- Jason Andrew, curator

Southbound: Photographs of and about the New South is an unprecedented photography exhibition co-curated by Mark Sloan, director and chief curator of the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, and Mark Long, professor of political science, both of whom are on the faculty of the College of Charleston, in South Carolina.
Southbound embraces the conundrum of its name. To be southbound is to journey to a place in flux, radically transformed over recent decades, yet also to the place where the past resonates most insistently in the United States. To be southbound is also to confront the weight of preconceived notions about this place, thick with stereotypes, encoded in the artistic, literary, and media records. Southbound engages with and unsettles assumed narratives about this contested region by providing fresh perspectives for understanding the complex admixture of history, geography, and culture that constitutes today’s New South.
Southbound comprises fifty-six photographers’ visions of the South over the first decades of the twenty-first century. Accordingly, it offers a composite image of the region. The photographs echo stories told about the South as a bastion of tradition, as a region remade through Americanization and globalization, and as a land full of surprising realities. The project’s purpose is to investigate senses of place in the South that congeal, however fleetingly, in the spaces between the photographers’ looking, their images, and our own preexisting ideas about the region.
