STEVENS RECEIVES ASMP’S SUSAN CARR EDUCATOR PRIZE

Philadelphia, PA…The American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), the premier trade association for imaging professionals,  has announced that Craig Stevens, a photographer, printmaker and educator, has received the 1st annual Susan Carr Educator Prize. He was selected as the individual who best met the criteria of making a significant contribution to the education of  photography students and imaging professionals.  The Prize honors the memory of former ASMP Education Director Susan Carr, who was dedicated to the education of working photographers.

According to ASMP Executive Director Eugene Mopsik, “Susan was a highly motivated and tireless worker with a great vision. She passed away on Labor Day 2012 after a long battle with cancer, and ASMP plans to remember her each year by presenting this award of $5,000." The selection committee included Jeff Curto, College of DuPage; Dennis Keeley, Art Center College of Design; Steve Bliss, Savannah College of Art & Design; Lauren Wendle,  Nielsen; and Gary Cialdella, Carr Cialdella Photography and Susan's former business partner.  The Prize will be given out at the PDN Awards Program in New York City on May 28th.

Prize recipient Craig Stevens has taught, written and lectured extensively on the subjects of art, photography and education and is in his 25th year as a Professor of Photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Before coming to SCAD Craig was the Associate Director of the Maine Photographic Workshops from 1975 to 1985.He is  on the Summer faculty of the Maine Media Workshops and has also taught at the Santa Fe Workshops, Anderson Ranch Art Center in Snowmass, Colorado and the International Center of Photography. He  served as Workshops Director for the 25th Anniversary of Les Rencontres Internationale de la Photographie in Arles, France. His work is held in many public and private collections in the United States and abroad. For the past decade he has devoted himself to teaching Expressive and Experimental Printmaking courses.
