Workshop Teaching Op for Grad Students and Alumni

Deadline July 9th

SCAD's Community Education Program is open to youth through adults who want to experience SCAD's high standards in art and design education. Classes generally meet once a week for two and a half hours over a period of four weeks. Workshops generally meet for one or two days, depending on
the topic. Feel free to browse the current CE offerings for an idea of the types of courses/workshops offered at http://www.scad.edu/programs/community-ed-summer/ce/index.cfm.  Also, keep
in mind that we encourage new courses and techniques!

If you think you might be interested in teaching a workshop or class, please send a proposal to either Laura Ballance (ATL), lballanc@scad.edu, or Leslie Wisniewski (SAV) at lwisniew@scad.edu. In the proposal please include the following information:

  • Suggested title of the class or workshop 
  • Brief description of the class or workshop
  • Time needed (class or workshop)
  • Classroom space needed (Do you need a specific SCAD classroom?)
  • Cost per participant (We allot $20 per participant.  If you need
  • to spend more, let us know)
  • Availability (Are there specific week days or weekends that you
  • are unavailable?)

Teaching Position

Visiting Assistant Professor
Photography

The Department of Art at Mississippi State University seeks to hire a Visiting Assistant Professor in Photography.  The position will begin Fall 2010.  The successful candidate will teach four courses a semester.  This is a one year non-tenure-track position with performance expected in the areas of teaching and service.  The primary responsibility of this position will be teaching Art 2103: Photo Survey.  This introductory photography class combines technical proficiency with the camera along with developing a personal aesthetic and utilizes either analog or digital SLR input.  All image editing is done with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Output is with professional Epson printers.  Participation in undergraduate advising, committees and service.  Opportunity to serve on undergraduate thesis committees.
 
The Department of Art is located in the College of Architecture, Art, and Design.  It has 300 Art majors, 20 full-time faculty and offers the BFA degree with emphasis areas in graphic design, ceramics, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.  The department is accredited by NASAD.  Information about the department is available at http://www.caad.msstate.edu.  Mississippi State University, a land-grant and sea-grant institution, founded in 1878, is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research-extensive Institution located in Starkville, Mississippi, a city of 20,000 residents.

Call for Entries - Writing on the Walls

Desotorow Gallery is currently accepting submissions for “Writing on the Walls”. This juried exhibition celebrates the personal idiosyncrasies of the art of handwriting through various mediums: letters, notes, grocery lists, and other organic print pieces that continue to exist despite today’s increased use of digital methods. Open to national and international artists (professional, emerging, and student). Open to works of all genres and media. Up to three pieces may be submitted for a non-refundable entry fee of $20. Deadline for submissions is June 25, 2010 at 5pm EST. Exhibit runs July 16 – 28, 2010.
